Veggie Lo mein

Veggie Lo mein is one of my favorite dishes to get in Chinese restaurants, but with prices of food going up it getting harder to eat out.

So to enjoy my favorite dish as much as I want I had to create this recipe at home, the tender vegetables mixed with the chewy noodles and tossed in the sauce make a perfect combination.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LO MEI AND CHOW MEIN

If you ever wonder what the difference between the are let me explain in the easiest way possible.

Chow mein noodle texture tends to be smaller and crunchier with a light delicate sauce and noodles are fried more in the wok.

Lo mein noodle texture tend to be softer and chewier tossed with a saucier sauce the coat the noodles well.

Ingredients
  

  • 8 oz Dry Egg noodle package or Fresh egg noodle
  • 2 large slice carrots
  • 1/4 of whole onion slice onion
  • 3 cups cabbage
  • 3 cloves mince garlic
  • 1 bunch green onion , green part only

  • SAUCE SAUCE SAUCE SAUCE SAUCE
  • 2 tbsp Dark soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp corn starch
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce or hoisin for sub

Instructions
 

  • remember that if you cant use oyster sauce you can replace with hoisin sauce for similar taste

How to make Veggie lo mein?

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Start by slicing your onion, carrots, cabbage, garlic, and green onion and set aside for later use.

2. Time to make your sauce, place the dark soy sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, corn starch, water, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper in a bowl and mix until fully combined.

3. Grab an 8 oz. egg noodle packet and cook for 5 minutes in boiling water, once the noodle has been cooked run them under cold water to stop the noodles from overcooking.

4. To a hot pan or wok cook your garlic, carrots, and onion for 2 minutes, then throw in your cabbage and continue cooking for 2 more minutes, after toss in your noodles, sauce, and green onion and cook for 1 more minute, stir the noodle until they become fully coated in the sauce. Serve your Veggie lo mein and enjoy
